[Solved]Installation Problem

February 25th, 2008

I received the WP-IPB bridge this morning and activating the plugin went off without a hitch; however, as soon as I corrected the forum path, my admin session expired and I was forced to log in again. The sync worked correctly, as I could login using my forums details, but obviously, I hadn't set up group permissions, so it's pretty useless.

I went ahead and moved the plugin's folder out of wp-content/plugins to temporarily disable it, but now my vanilla Wordpress admin account can't be found! Any help on being able to get back into the admin panel?

Free Version…

February 25th, 2008

I understand this a business to you, but you did mention a "free" version at http://forums.invisionize.com/index.php?s=…mp;p=1175349736

I a just wondering if that is still going to be an option.

Thank you,
Robert

Automated Purcase System Or Manual?

February 24th, 2008

Just wondering if the purchase system is automated or if the creator manually sends out the product via email, because I purchased a copy this friday, and got my confirmation from PayPal soon after, but still no e-mail with the product attached. Just wondering if it will take more time for my product to arrive in the mailbox

Theme And Skin Guide

February 21st, 2008

In this guide I will show you how to fully integrate your Invision Power Board into your Wordpress theme.

You need to have my WP-IPB Bridge installed and set to Theme and Skin integration, this will insert Wordpress' header and footer and wrap IPB into Wordpress. The only problem with this integration is that your IPB logo is still visible and creates a double header, one from your Wordpress and the original IPB's header.

Deleting IPB's Logo

To solve this problem simply delete your IPB's header code from your skin, to do this follow these instructions:

  1. Login to your IPB CP.
  2. Select on the Look and Feel tab.
  3. Select Edit Template HTML
  4. Select All Global HTML
  5. Select global_board_header

Find and DELETE the following code:

CODE
<div class="borderwrap">
    <div id="logostrip"><a href='{$this->ipsclass->base_url}'><!–ipb.logo.start–><img src='style_images/<#IMG_DIR#>/logo4.gif' style='vertical-align:top' alt='IPB' border='0' /><!–ipb.logo.end–></a></div>

* This code may be different on custom skins but they will mostly be found after the following line of code

CODE
<!–ipb.javascript.end–>

and before

CODE
<!–ipb.leftlinks.start–>

at the very beginning of your global_board_header codebox.

Question -> Perhaps A Faq

February 20th, 2008

First CONGRATS on getting back up and running, there is NO MORE frustrating feeling than being "Taken out", especially when you had no way of preventing it.

Second while I like what you have done and I think I am starting to understand the purpose for the way you did it….Placing a Word Press skin around IPB is to me…um like putting whip cream on crap…prettier, sure, more functional as a CMS…um NO. WordPress as a CMS is pretty much a joke considering other options.

SO before you get offended, that was just my .02 on the subject, my question is, will you do a FAQ or HELP on how to make the WordPress look more like an established site? In other words a skinning guide.

Many people spend a bunch of money on skins/graphics and many would like the integration of Wordpress, but they don't want to be out that initial investment, so a skin guide for WordPress I am hoping is in your top 5 to do.

Thanks and Congrats again!!!

Payment

February 17th, 2008

Hi!

I'm very interested in MU version. Is it possible to pay for your integration with webmoney or other e-money?

Most Common Questions

February 14th, 2008

QUOTE (Iva @ Dec 26 2007, 05:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello:)
I'm looking forward to integrate IPB on

1) Basically, the database integration-only is a free plugin, from what I understood? If so, would moderators from IPB get more privilleges on WP? I wouldn't want that to happen…and I don't need the skin integration or other advanced features, but this other thing would do great. Also, if I get the list of all 1500+ members of a board in WP admin interface, would it be paginated for an easier view?

Yes, the database integration is a free plug-in with a footer link back to this site for advertising purposes like you see on most free high quality Wordpress themes and IPB modifications.

As for your pagination question, Wordpress would organize members the same way Wordpress does, very messy in my opinion.

The defaults would be similar to IPB's, where Root admins are WP admins, IPB Admins are WP Editors, Moderators are Authors, and member subscribers.

QUOTE
2) How much do names matter here? Would people have to register with emails or as someonesname instead of Someone's Name?

I don't understand what you are asking, can you please rephrase your question and be more specific?

QUOTE
3) if I am Forum Admin on the forum and admin on WordPress, can the script tell I'm the only person supposed to maintain both?

When you integrate user databases, the Wordpress user database table is then "not used" and instead Wordpress bases its users on your IPB member table along with all of IPB's permission masks.

QUOTE
3) My WordPress is integrated with a Gallery 2 installation, through WPG2. Would then G2 also integrate itself with IPB, automatically?

I suppose it would work this way but I'm not familiar nor offer support for Gallery 2, so I can only guarantee you that my Wordpress and IPB integration will work.

QUOTE
4) If IPB is on a subdomain, does that make any difference?

The free integration does not support different domains, or sub-domains.

QUOTE
5) If I decide to use some other message board script in future, could I move on without any major damage? (This is a paranoid question, sorry!)

Simply "Uninstall" your WP-IPB plug-in from your Wordpress CP plug-in list.

Q) Is there an option to have WordPress manage its own comments?
A) WP-IPB Bridge comes with 3 different settings:

All comments handle by Wordpress
When your members click on your IPB's thread reply button they will be redirected to your cross-posted Wordpress post to enter their comment. Warning: This option does not change older cross-posts on IPB are handled.

All Comments handle by IPB.

When your members click on your Wordpress comments link they will be redirected to your cross-posted IPB thread to reply to the post.

Allow all comments on Both, Wordpress and IPB

All comments and replies are cross-posted on both; your wordpress post and your IPB thread.

Q) When a member of our team wishes to post something new on the front
page, can this still be done through WordPress?

A) Yes, it can still be done via Wordpress.

Q) From what I read it seems IP.Board takes a copy of whatever was written and makes it into a new forum post is that right?
A) Yes, that is correct.

Q) So in other words formatting would remain true on WordPress; what about on the forum post view?
A) The forum designated to be the replicator forum needs to be html-enable to be able to cross-post everything from Wordpress.

Q) If we edit an article on the front page within WordPress, does the forum thread's content get updated too?
A) Yes, the article is updated in either one of the two, Wordpress or IPB whenever one or another is edited, deleted or updated.

Q) Are we able to disable the integration of posting news in to the forum?

A) No, by default you have to choose a forum to cross-post your Wordpress' posts into.

Q) Is there any sort of a demo we can use to try out the product?
A) Yes, the demo can be found at http://invisionbridge.com/demo
Username is Test and password: demo
To access the Wordpress admin panel visit the link http://invisionbridge.com/demo/wp-admin

Q) What options do we have for support?
A) You can email me at ejraven@gmail.com, send me a PM on the forums or make a post on the forums. I will respond Monday through Friday within 24 hours, I'm offline on the weekends.

Q) Are we guaranteed to some degree that development will remain constant?
A) WP-IPB is the first in the series of Invision Power Board and Wordpress plug-ins in a suit of bridges including Joomla and IPB, Wordpress and vBulletin, and several other Wordpress plug-ins, so yes the development and support for this plug-in will be constant and when new versions of either software is available, if needed, a new version of our scripts will be coded and mail out to our customers.

Q) What turn around times are we looking at in case WordPress or IP.Board have a major upgrade which breaks integration?
A) WP-IPB plug-in can be easily updated for future Wordpress versions, seeing as how most plug-ins from the 2.x Wordpress version still work on the newer 2.3x, there is no reason to believe WP-IPB will not be compatible with the future Wordpress version 2.5. In addition, WP-IPB uses a very natural integration and has ZERO core file edits for Invision Power Board, this means that unless IPB completely changes its use of the logging process, WP-IPB should work with future releases of IPB.
Nonetheless, rest assure, if there is any changes that "break" the WP-IPB bridge or any other of my products, a newer, updated versions will be available within a very short period of time, my best guest is from 2 days to 1 week after official release.

Q) Is this a possibility? (My reason for asking is I don't want to build a product using a third party product which could possibly become software that isn't worked on anymore. It would be costly to me and my partner to either invest in another solution or get someone in-house to make it work?
A) The WP-IPB script and others in the line of products I'm producing are in high demand, unless the demand for these products is reduced to zero, I will continue to provide the necessary support, updates and customer service that is required to maintain this product.

Q) We want our users to be able to login to either WordPress or the forum
and *remain* logged in when they switched between WordPress and
IP.Board. If the user wished to comment on a front page post them he
or she could do so no problem and likewise if they wanted to
participate in forum activity then, again, this would pose no problem.
This is the killer decider for me; can it do this?

A) Yes, WP-IPB Bridge can do what is described in your paragraph.

Wordpress & Invision Power Board integration plug-in

Users Manual

Installation

  1. Unzip the installation zip folder.
  2. Upload folder \bridge into your Wordpress \plugin folder.
  3. Activate the plug-in in Wordpress CP –> Plug-ins -> WP-IPB Bridge.
  4. Specify the correct IPB path and select forum in Wordpress CP –> Options -> WP-IPB Bridge.
  5. Select Skin integration –> Yes.
  6. Do not activate the "User Group Integration" yet! leave this option to "No"
    If you happen to activate the "User Group Integration" and when you try to log back in with your IPB's root admin account and you are unable to access your Wordpress admin panel, then you have been locked out of your Wordpress and here are the instructions on how to fix this lock out issue.
  7. Log back in with your IPB's root admin account and go to USERS –> InvisionBridge Users Settings and update your Root Admin to Administrators.

Notes

IPB path
By default it is supposed that IPB is placed in [Wordpress folder]/forum but you may specify a different path through admin panel.

Admin password

Please note the admin password after plug-in is activated is taken from IPB.

Making the cross-posted post

Wordpress

When writing a new post you can see a widget named “IPB”. Check “Crosspost to IPB” if you want your post to appear in the linked IPB forum as well.

IPB

Just go to the forum which is linked with WP (check in Wordpress CP -> Options – IPB Bridge) and post something. The post should go to Wordpress as well.

Note

HTML in the posts
Please make sure you don’t have HTML disabled in IPB for the plug-in to work correctly.

Disabling the plug-in

Go to Options -> IPB bridge
Select Skin integration -> no

Uninstall

Remove the folder wp-content\plugins\bridge
OR
Deactivate the plugin in Wordpress admin panel -> Plugins -> IPB Bridge

Plug-in features

  • Easy to install, usual WP plugin
  • Full replication of user accounts - when account is being added, modified or removed in one system, the same happens in the other
  • Special widget allowing to crosspost records from WP to IPB with options how to handle the comments - via WP or via IPB
  • IPB avatar is displayed in the blogroll area
  • Advanced user groups management
  • Visual integration - IPB is fully integrated into WP template, one single look and feel is achieved
  • Easy to disable the plugin and get back to original state of the things, easy to enable again if necessary
  • Author’s avatars near posts in WP

User groups and settings

Check Wordpress CP->Options->InvsionBridge->Users Groups integration
This should be set to ‘yes’
Check Wodpress CP -> Users -> InvisionBridge Users Settings

Here you can assign IPB groups into WP groups. When the admin creates a different group other than the standard groups (defaults) InvisionBridge treats these new groups are subscribers.
Admin has the ability to assign new IPB group INTO any Wordpress group.

For example, IPB admin creates new groups, X, Y and Z, when logging in to Wordpress, this new groups, X Y and Z have Subscriber's permission mask.

Admin then goes to Bridge Wordpress CP and is able to move the new X, Y and Z IPB group into any of the default Wordpress groups such as: Contributor, Author, Editor, or Admin.

       <? if(function_exists('wpipb_showpanel')) wpipb_showpanel(); ?>

                       <?php wp_list_pages('title_li=<h2>Pages</h2>' ); ?>

single.php

To display the avatar of the post’s author, insert the following code in your single.php file:

CODE
<?=wpipb_authoravatar(get_the_author_ID());        ?>

It should look something similar to the following line of code:
