[Solved]Installation Problem
I received the WP-IPB bridge this morning and activating the plugin went off without a hitch; however, as soon as I corrected the forum path, my admin session expired and I was forced to log in again. The sync worked correctly, as I could login using my forums details, but obviously, I hadn't set up group permissions, so it's pretty useless.
I went ahead and moved the plugin's folder out of wp-content/plugins to temporarily disable it, but now my vanilla Wordpress admin account can't be found! Any help on being able to get back into the admin panel?

Let me understand this correctly:
You are only suppose to change the forum path and then return to change the rest of the settings, I think this is what you did wrong, you activated the group integration at the same time on your first time updating the settings.
This causes your plug-in to "try to recognize" your group settings, but it does still recognize your IPB root admin as Wordpress Administrator so not sure what kind of error you are getting.
When you log in with your IPB's root admin, do you login as a normal user?
You do not need to set up a group permission for your Root Admin, it will automatically recognize your IPB's root admin as your Wordpress root admin.
How to disable the integration:
It's listed under the installation instructions, to fully disable the plug-in you need to delete all of the files under the plugins/bridge folder.
You should be able to log back in with your Wordpress administrator account once all bridge files have been deleted from your server.
I cannot help you with Vanilla, unless you deleted files from the Vanilla folder then I don't see why you cannot get back in.
Let me know if this worked for you, you can also PM me your FTP and admin account information if you like me to fix it for you.

EJ

I did steps 1-3 as you list them, and then when I logged back into Wordpress under the root admin account I have for IPB, it only allowed me to update my profile–not set up user group permissions or have any sort of administrative function. It's mgroup 4, the traditional root admin group.
I reenabled the plugin by putting the folder back in /wp-content/plugins and still have the problem, though admittedly that wouldn't change anything.
Also: when I say "vanilla Wordpress," I simply meant a plain Wordpress with nothing added to it.

Delete all the bridge plug-in files from your Wordpress installation, you will need to do this via FTP, or Plesk panel.
Go to your Invision Power Board and create a new Root Admin account, just to be safe.
Re-upload all of the bridge plug-in files to your Wordpress installation and this time follow these steps:
Let me know how that works out for you.

Update:
The reason that your Wordpress may not be recognizing your IPB's root admin is a fundamental flaw in how usernames and passwords are set up by both systems, there is no way around it but to follow the installations steps correctly.
Let me know if you still have issues, but for the sake of safety, the instructions above would be the safest way to do it.

I am experiencing the same problem with having root admin accounts stripped of their permissions. When i log in IPB strips the field that says what permissions I have and sets it to:
The fix you suggested above worked perfectly, so it's up and running just fine

I'm glad this solution worked for you, I have added this issue to the bug tracker as a document for other people to review in case they run into this particular issue.
